## Reporting a Vulnerability

If you discover a security vulnerability in StreamA2026, please follow these steps:

### 1. DO NOT
- Create a public GitHub issue
- Discuss the vulnerability in public forums
- Exploit the vulnerability

### 2. DO
- Send an email to: security@streama2026.com
- Include as much detail as possible:
  - Description of the vulnerability
  - Steps to reproduce
  - Potential impact
  - Suggested fix (if any)

### 3. Response Timeline
- **Initial response**: Within 48 hours

- **Fix release**: As soon as feasible, based on severity

### 4. Disclosure Process
Once the vulnerability is fixed:
1. A security advisory will be published
2. Users will be notified to update
3. Public disclosure after users have had time to update

## Security Best Practices

### For Developers
- Never commit `.env` files or secrets
- Use strong, unique passwords in production
- Keep dependencies updated
- Enable HTTPS in production
- Use environment variables for sensitive data
- Implement rate limiting
- Validate and sanitize all user inputs
- Use parameterized queries to prevent SQL injection
- Implement proper authentication and authorization

### For Deployment
- Change all default passwords
- Use strong JWT secret keys (min 32 chars)
- Enable firewall rules
- Use HTTPS/TLS for all connections
- Keep systems updated
- Regular security audits
- Monitor logs for suspicious activity
- Implement backup and recovery procedures

### For Users
- Use strong, unique passwords
- Enable 2FA when available
- Keep software updated
- Be cautious with permissions
- Report suspicious activity

## Environment Variables

See `.env.example` for all configurable environment variables.

**Critical Security Variables:**
- `POSTGRES_PASSWORD` - Database password
- `REDIS_PASSWORD` - Redis password
- `JWT_SECRET_KEY` - JWT signing key

**Never commit these to version control!**

## Dependencies

We regularly update dependencies for security patches. To check for vulnerabilities:

```bash
# Python
pip install safety
safety check
# Node
npm audit
npm audit fix
```
